Website Examples for UK SMEs and Independent Projects

Merchant Guides card payment comparison website
Card processing fees comparison site for UK businesses. A multi-step quoting web app with Companies House lookup, built in-house, so merchants get a free, no-obligation comparison without a sales call from a stranger. Every step is logged, so even a half-finished quote can still be picked up.

Cyprus Inn restaurant website, Stalybridge
Mediterranean restaurant on the River Tame. Menus split by type so people can find the early bird set menu or the bottomless brunch on their phone in one tap, and a reservations button on every page.
JLR Car Keys automotive locksmith website
Jaguar and Land Rover key replacement and programming across England and Wales. Five pages plus ongoing updates. Phone number and WhatsApp button in every section, because the customer is usually stood next to a car they can't get into.

Independent Merchant Services USA financial services website
Card payment advice and merchant account comparison for US businesses. Five pages plus a custom multi-step quote form. Asking a stranger for their turnover in one go loses most of them, so it's broken into stages.
Woolston Eyes nature reserve website
Site for the conservation charity running Woolston Eyes, the only nature reserve partnered by the RSPB. A large permit holders' section for logging sightings, backed by a full taxonomy of the reserve's birds, insects, flora and fauna.

Bolton Guitar Studio music tuition website
Lesson site for a professional guitarist teaching guitar, ukulele, banjo and mandolin in Bolton and over Skype. Separate pages for each instrument, a video library and a tabs section the teacher can add to himself.
About Rivington large custom WordPress site
My own site covering Rivington and the West Pennine Moors, with an interactive map of every point of interest. Built on a custom classification system rather than standard WordPress taxonomies, the same approach that runs Landscape Britain, my long-running project covering the landscape of Britain, which takes in several million pages.

Landscape Britain photography, local history and geographic database
A national gazetteer of Britain built and curated by one person, with over 2,300 photographed and written-up locations sitting on top of a cross-linked database of the whole landscape: 132 counties, 29,210 places, 10,073 lakes, 3,233 rivers, 19,322 hills and mountains, 9,768 woodlands, 2,212 nature reserves, 412 country parks, 12 national parks, 35 National Landscapes, 91 SSSIs and 174,827 scheduled monuments. Down to street level with 117,414 streets, plus 7,416 attractions, 12,312 places to eat and 1,104 shops, alongside sections for walks, wildlife and fossils. And still growing.
